Basic, no-show makeup is kind of my thing.

I love dressing up as much as the next girl, but (a) I kind of suck at makeup, and (b) who can really afford to pile it on on a daily basis—so simple and basic is my look of choice.

It turns out CC cream is the makeup product I never knew I needed, and Hey Honey does a killer job. It wasn’t even on my radar until I received a sample of Hey Honey Trick and Treat CC Cream in the Ipsy Glam Bag—I used to just pile that good ole foundation on, even on the lighter days.

It only took a single application to realize how much I genuinely loved (and needed) Hey Honey CC Cream as a regular addition to my life. It’s an all-day, active moisturizing cream that slides on like a dream and helps smooth over any flaws you might be trying to lessen.

But is the Hey Honey Trick and Treat CC Cream really for you? Let’s dig into my experience with it so you can figure out whether or not you need to add it to your makeup collection, stat!

What is Hey Honey CC Cream?

Hey Honey Trick and Treat CC Cream is a color correcting cream that doubles as a moisturizer, leaving you with complete and natural skin-perfecting coverage that lasts all day long. It uses what they call “triple pigment technology” to help hide your skin’s imperfections and give you comfortable full to medium coverage.

Combining a hint of cover up with moisturizer, Hey Honey CC Cream’s formula helps to ensure there’s no heavy makeup drying out your skin. Plus it also has anti-aging technology, which you might not need yet but why not start early?

While I use the light to medium color due to my skin tone, they have four other shades, including deep, deep tan, tan, and light—so you can find the color that works best for you. It’s said to be designed for any skin type, and while I can’t speak for all, I can share that it works for sensitive combination skin that needs a little TLC.

You can use this bad boy to replace your full concealer on a good day, and it has the properties of an active moisturizer. As someone who travels a lot, I love being able to combine products because it means less to carry without making any big sacrifices.

Hey Honey CC Cream is infused with propolis extract, squalene and dead sea minerals, all which help hydrate and keep your skin looking healthy as hell all day long. If you’re looking for a self-adjusting corrector that will leave you with a flawless, natural complexion, this is the CC cream for you.

How to use it Hey Honey CC Cream

Using Hey Honey CC Cream is easy.

You want to apply it over your entire face after your moisturizer has been applied (I use Celestial by Lush), or you can use it as a replacement of your regular moisturizer if you’re looking to avoid doubling up.

I use a makeup sponge to spread it out, but if you’re in a real hurry and don’t have one on-hand, your fingers work fine as well. You just want to make sure you’re applying it evenly and blending it in to give you that flawless look.

After it’s applied, I continue along my regular makeup routine. However, because it’s a tinted foundation-like cream, you can skip your regular foundation if you want to.

Does it work?

Hey Honey’s CC Cream is really expensive, which means figuring out if it works or not is of vital importance before you had over your cold, hard cash.

I love that it provides a light to medium coverage that evens out my skin tone. But, depending on my skin that day, it isn’t always enough to cover some of the more difficult spots. For those days, I pair it with my MAC Studio Fix Foundation Stick (in NW-20).

I also really like the moisturizing factor, though I do opt to use my regular moisturizer underneath it. I apply my regular moisturizer then wait for it to dry. Once that’s ready, I apply the CC Cream over the top.

The only thing that would make this particular product better is if it also featured sun protection. There are CC cream choices out there that do help you avoid having sun compromised skin (recommended below), but beyond that I truly believe this is an amazing product.

Other CC cream choices

Hey Honey CC Cream isn’t the best choice for everyone.

As amazing as it is, it’s incredibly expensive—a single 1 oz bottle of it cost me almost $80 CAD. Not everyone can afford to for that over once every four to six weeks (depending on how often you use it). Myself included, if I’m being honest.

So, if you’re looking for an alternative CC cream choice, here are a few you might want to consider:

IT Your Skin But Better CC Cream

Your Skin But Better is a full coverage CC cream that can help reduce appearance of skin imperfections and get rid of dark circles. Developed by plastic surgeons, this product is good for combination, oily, and normal skin types.

While this isn’t an identical substance, it does have the added benefit of sunscreen. It’s oil-free with SPF 40 and a 12-hour matte finish. Not to mention, it’s infused with charcoal to detoxify, tea tree extract to reduce blemishes, and colloidal clay to absorb oil.

Unlike the other choices on this list, this IT Cosmetics has 12 different shade choices. It provides a whopping seven benefits, including:

  • Sunblock
  • Color correcting
  • Anti-aging serum
  • Dark spot concealer
  • Moisturizer
  • Primer

This is the tinted moisturizer that you deserve in your life. A product free of parabans and phthalates, that’s been clinically tested but cruelty-free. Reduce your shine and control that oil all in one product.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue has a wide range of shade choices with 20 different ones to choose from, making it the best on our list. It’s a foundation product that makes for a light coverage cream that’s just enough to give you the look of blemish-free, clean skin.

This light wear cream is dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic, oil-free, silicone-free, and fragrance-free, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin. It provides the benefits of both BB and CC cream, making it an ideal makeup skin care product.

Use your favourite beauty sponge, to swipe this CC cream onto your combination or dry skin. It’s the ideal product to give you a smoother appearance by providing a truly moisturizing serum. You’ll get a gorgeous natural finish that can protect you from environmental stressors.

Juice Beauty CC Cream

Juice Beauty represents some of the best anti-aging skincare for those looking for the perfect CC cream choice. It’s ideal for oily or combination skin who are looking for active moisturizing benefits.

This product pulls multitasking duty, including color correcting, anti-aging, and perfecting skin. Certified clean at Sephora, Juice Beauty CC Cream is vegan and never tested on animals. And, best of all (in my books anyway), it provide 30 SPF sun protection.

This cream is great on its own or as an additional layer. With an anti-wrinkle effect, it helps provide you with a radiant finish. Unfortunately, it’s only available in five lighter shades, so it’s definitely not the best pick for everyone.

Clinique CC Cream

Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream isn’t for everyone, primarily because it only comes in three shades which are bound not to fit the perfect color requirement for all the ladies out there. However, for those that it does, it could make for an ideal choice.

This CC cream is touted as solving dull and uneven skin tones with a lightweight formula that color corrects for redness, dullness, and sallowness, leaving you with healthy-looking skin that has a slight glow to it.

Bonus points: this cream is free of scents, oil, mineral oil, SLS, alcohol, silicone, talc, and gluten, making it a simple average choice for those of us that have more sensitive skin.
